Joel Fullerton is an interdisciplinary visual artist whose work explores traditional and expanded drawing practices, including stone lithography, printmaking, and sculpture/installation. His art focuses on ecological connections within the more-than-human world and ideas of material animism. Joel's recent exhibition, Trees That Follow Me, in Maastricht, Netherlands, featured a series of abstract botanical drawings of specific trees and their bark patterns. These works marked a change in his visual practice, emphasizing place and landscape and expressing a desire to remember relationships with the living environment. These themes continue in his current series, See You In The Morning.

Joel's artwork has been exhibited in both public and private venues across North America and was recently featured in Fire Season III, a Canadian book project addressing wildfires and changing landscapes. In addition to art-making, Joel has taught visual arts and writing at colleges and universities in Canada and the U.S., including Georgian College, the University of Guelph, the University of California San Diego, and the University of the Fraser Valley. He is currently a Teacher Candidate in the Bachelor of Education program at Trent University. He earned an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis in 2010 and a BA from the University of Guelph in 2008. Joel is from Ontario and lives with his family in Peterborough.
